Overview of IS6-D Integrating Sphere:

User's Manual

The IS6-D is a 6” integrating sphere (5.3” inside) for use with divergent (D) beams. It has no detectors, where the detection configuration for the IS6-D is done by the user. It can also be used as a uniform light source.

Drawing of IS6-D integrating sphere:

Main parameters:

Aperture ?63.5mm
Spectral Range 200-2200nm
Dimensions ?154 (mm)
Max Average Power Density 1 kw/cm2
Max Beam Divergence ±60 deg
Sensitivity to Beam Divergence ±3%

Problem summary:

How to measure the power of divergent beam with integrating sphere sensor?

The integrating sphere is used to measure divergent light sources. As shown in the figure, the inner surface of the integrating sphere is coated with a highly reflective (usually 99%) surface in a scattering, non mirror way. Therefore, when the divergent beam hits the integrating sphere wall, the light will be reflected and scattered many times until the light hitting anywhere on the sphere wall has the same intensity. Therefore, the detector placed in the sphere obtains the same intensity as anywhere else, and the power detected by the detector is proportional to the total incident power unrelated to the beam divergence. (The detector is arranged so that it can only see the scattered light, but not the incident beam.) An ideal integrating sphere has a surface with Lambert reflection characteristics. This means that the light incident on the surface is uniformly scattered in all directions of the 2 pi spherical solid angle above the surface. The surface used in the Ophir integrating ball head is very close to the Lambert surface.
